What is the Family Resource Center?
The center is managed by a full time administrator, Ginger West, under the guidance of the Advisory Board of Directors. The staff consists of volunteers, some of whom are parents, who have had experience with handicapped children and in running support groups. Others have experience as foster parents and in working with abused women and children.
The resources we have to offer are: support groups for parents, parent education classes on behavior management and communication, lending library with materials about parenting, clothing and toy exchange, baby furniture loan out, information and referral services, a warm line, work experience for handicapped students, a web Site and, now, a bike to work program.
Most people hear about us in the fall of every year because of the "Sponsor A Child For Christmas Project". The project provides gifts to children who are in need and under the protection of the state. These children may be in foster care, shelter, protective supervision or another such program, or are housed in the spouse abuse shelter, or are being seen by a school social worker.
